The Benefits of Cooking With a Skillet

Any chef, professional or not, will agree that there are many benefits to using a skillet when you cook. In fact, depending on the style of skillet, the benefits differ a bit as well. The number one benefit to cooking with a skillet is the versatility it offers. You can cook just about anything in a skillet.

Skillets are known to be a great one-pan source for a good dinner. You can cook up a meal with the one pan, add to it as appropriate, and have a finished dinner all in one pan. Rice, pasta and potato dishes are known to be great base products for a good skillet dinner. You would start with them, add the meat, vegetables and other seasonings, cook it up for the appropriate amount of time and then serve it. You can often serve it right out of the same pan; thus having only one pan to wash. Never a bad thing.

If you like cast iron skillets then you are talking totally different types of cooking. The family iron skillet is a classic. It always looks a little dirty, it is used over and over again and you never see anyone use soap on it. The reason is clear; iron skillets get flavoring cooked into them. You don't want to wash away the seasoning after you have started to work it in after a few meals.

Skillets are also great for cooking meat; beef works very well in a skillet as long as you can time your beef right. Actually, the skillet is so versatile you can cook just about anything in it, and that's exactly the point.
