Alternatives to Fried Foods

Despite how much we love them, we all know that fried foods are not our friends. They are typically filled with artery-clogging but shelf-stable trans fats that make fried foods more tasty. There are alternatives to frying foods that can still bring out their natural flavors, and in a healthier manner.
Baking is the simplest alternative to frying. Even fries can be oven baked by lightly coating them in olive oil or cooking spray and spreading them on a cookie sheet to bake at 400 degrees for about 35 minutes or until golden brown.

The thicker the cut, the longer they'll need to be cooked. You can season the fries with different herbs like dried rosemary, cayenne or garlic powder to kick up the flavor. Don't use your favorite cookie sheet as this method will damage it over time and make it unsuitable for baking cookies. Stir frying uses minimal amounts of healthy fats like olive oil over a high heat to sear foods and lock in their moisture. Other cooking methods that use this same basic strategy include grilling and broiling. Steaming is a cooking method primarily used with vegetables.

They are cooked just above the steaming water for a few minutes. This makes the vegetables tender-crisp and preserves their natural flavors, which can be masked when using cooking oils and seasonings. Other cooking alternatives to frying foods include boiling, roasting, microwaving, pureeing, and sautéing. Slow-cooking is another easy and economical way of tenderizing inexpensive cuts of meat and combining them with healthy vegetables to make delicious and nutritious meals. The use of a crockpot is required for this method.
