Matching Salad Ingredients to the Dressing

When matching salad ingredients to the dressing it is best to decide what type of ingredients are going into the salad and what dressing will best show off those ingredients. There are endless varieties of salad. Starchy salads can be made of noodles, rice or potatoes. Green salads contain many kinds of lettuce along with pale green avocados, red onions, red pepper and orange tomatoes.

When adding dressing to the salad it should hold up to the components of the salad. When a green salad is dressed with a dressing made of balsamic vinegar, salt, ground black pepper and extra-virgin olive oil the greens take on a richer color and the other ingredients seem crisper and more tasty. Tender greens and raw vegetable salads go perfect with an herbal vinaigrette made of oil and vinegar or lemon. For a little more flavor add salt, Greek or French feta cheese or mild blue cheese.

The starchy salads are best dressed with creamy dressings. This also goes for fish and meat salads. Seafood salads can be made of any kind of fish or shellfish you wish to use. The meaty salads consist of either strips of steak, chicken and/or slices of pork atop a bed of greens, with sweet red onions, fresh tomatoes and red or yellow peppers. As you can see there are many types of salads and just as many salad dressings to top those salads. Dressings can be made from a recipe or you can create your own. These salads and their dressings are a healthy, great tasting addition to any meal.
