Fall Dishes for the Family

It is almost time to put away the grill and pull out the Dutch oven. Hang up the tongs; it's fall and time for some good old fashioned stews, fresh apple pies, and cuddly sweaters. A nip is in the air, along with some really good smells from your kitchen.

Fall is the time for fresh crisp apples and pears. What about a pie that combines pears with Cheddar cheese? The recipe can be found at allrecipes.com/Recipe/Cheddar-Pear-Pie/Detail.aspx. It is like a pie with a touch of crisp to it. You will top the pie with a combination of flour, brown sugar, cheddar cheese, and butter. The filling will combine sliced pears that have been peeled, lemon juice, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon. Cut the butter into the flour, cheese, and brown sugar. In a bowl, combine cornstarch, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Toss the pears with the lemon juice and then toss them with the cornstarch mixture. Put all this in a pie crust, top with the first mixture, and bake in a 400 degree oven until golden brown.

Then pull out the crock pot and get breakfast ready tonight! Spiced oatmeal with nuts and fruit will wake you up with a rumbling tummy. In your crock pot, mix rolled oats, fruit of choice, and almonds or pecans, any nut will do. Add three cups of water, a cup of milk, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and some butter. Cook on low all night and wake up to a hearty, delicious breakfast. The recipe can be found at allrecipes.com/Recipe/Slow-Cooker-Fruit-Nuts-and-Spice-Oatmeal/Detail.aspx

Fall is all about the smell of spices, fresh fruits like apples, pears, and pumpkin pie. The choices are endless; be bold, be creative, and have an awesome fall food fest.
