The Best Appliance Ever

Every writer giving information about the crockpot was in agreement that it is the best appliance in the kitchen and that it is greatly under-used. Let's see why.

The crockpot’s advantages are many. It saves a lot of time and money and that alone makes it valuable. It does not heat up the kitchen and that makes it great for summer. There is much less clean-up as there’s only one pot. It needs no tending; the meal is cooking while you are doing other things or are at work. Burning the food is not a problem because of the low heat. There is a great variety of foods that can be done in the crockpot, including foods for breakfast that cook overnight, foods that can be cooked in quantity and used for several meals, such as a chili that can be used with cornbread, or over hot dogs or on baked potatoes. Even desserts such as apple dumplings can be done with them. The cheaper cuts of meat can be used because they cook for a long time and become tender. Side dishes can be prepared in them. You can make your own broth with a chicken and vegetables and then freeze the broth for later use. Recipes are plentiful and easily obtained.

There are some things that will not do well in this appliance. Fish does not cook well unless it is a stew or chowder. Very large cuts of meat such as a leg of lamb should be done in the regular oven. A lot of juices are collected and can dilute the ingredients if care is not taken. It is possible to overcook some tender cuts of meat such as chicken. Let's use the crockpot for healthy, easy meals.
