Alternatives to Fried Foods

If it weren't for our cravings for fried foods we would have no trouble being satisfied with non-fried foods. We have come to like fried foods best of all. Usually, they taste better and they are heavy with salt which is also not good for you. Learning to eat alternative foods takes time. Most new foods are hard to adjust to and enjoy. Sometimes it is a matter of determination. Are we concerned enough about our health and well being to make the change no matter what?

However, there are recipes that are so good that we enjoy the new taste and are happy to make the switch. It is hard to replace fried fish. Baked, broiled, or boiled, fish just doesn't compare with fried. You can work at eating the non-fried foods most of the time and go for the fried fish. It won't kill you just once in a while. One more thought about fish is fish soup, if made right is wonderful. There is a restaurant in Cleveland that makes the greatest fish soup. Find a good recipe and give it a try. Bake and Shake on chicken and pork chops is wonderful. Boiled hamburger is very good if cooked with onions and garlic and served like Sloppy Joes.

You can add vegetable soup and have soupburgers. Eggs can be cooked in a Teflon skillet with a little water and covered with a lid until done. Bacon is very good when cooked in the microwave. A baked roast is the ultimate in beef flavor. Homemade soups are so good and there is no limit to them. One really good soup is “refrigerator soup.” It is made of leftovers that are in the fridge at the time you make the soup. Cabbage soup is very low in calories and very tasty. Let your imagination go and see what you come up with.
