The Hawaiian islands emerged from the Pacific Ocean as
vvolcanoes several million years ago. Today the world's most
active volcano, Kileaua continues to produce up to 640,000 cubic
feet of lava per day. That's enough to resurface a twenty mile
two-lane road.
The islands today offer miles of the world's most beautiful
sandy beaches as well as colorful fish and flowers. The people
of Hawaii are some of the world's most eco-conscious, working
steadily to preserve the natural beauty of their home. But
that doesn't mean they don't wish their visitors Aloha, which
means both Hello and Goodby, as well as Peace.
The main tourist destination is the island of Oahu, where
Waikiki beach is located as well as the picturesque cliff known
as Diamond Head. One can easily spend a relaxing vacation without
ever leaving Oahu. But the other islands have their attractions
too.
Kauai features Waiamea Canyon, known as the Grand Canyon of
the Pacific. It is easily reached by small plane and makes a
great day-trip. With year-round temperatures averaging 74 degrees,
swimming, scuba and surfing are always available. So make plans
to visit one of the world's great vacation spots. ALOHA!
