Using Whole Foods To Add Flavor To Recipes

Whole foods are foods in their natural or original form. They have not been processed or refined with added ingredients. Whole foods are very nutritious as well as flavorful and satisfying.

It seems that the early pioneers who carved out their homesteads in North America thrived on diets of whole and natural foods. They simply roasted the wild game from the forests and fish from the rivers and streams. Then, they seasoned them with the herbs and berries found growing naturally. Eating the fresh vegetables and fruits they cultivated provided a very nutritional diet.

The 20th century brought many advances in food processing and refining. But, has it really improved our diet? The natural whole foods are now considered the healthiest way of eating. As well, the natural whole foods offer the nutrients to protect our bodies from many chronic diseases.

Using whole herbs and vegetables to flavor the foods that are served at your table will please many people. Chop onions and use with herbs such as sage and thyme in the stuffing for a roasted chicken to give it flavor. Make a healthy and delicious soup with the leftover chicken and vegetables like carrots, potatoes, onions and celery. Season it with parsley, peppercorns and a little salt.

Using whole grains to make breads and muffins will make them healthy and flavorful. These whole-grain products and other whole foods can also be purchased in local supermarkets. It is surprising how good they taste when they are actually so good for you.
