Music - My Constant Companion
Many years ago I had a stereo Hi-Fi. It consisted of an AM/FM tuner, an amplifier, a turntaable for playing phonograph records (vynil disks about 11 inches in diameter, with a hole in the center), two speakers and a collection of about three hundred record albums. That was a lot
of music, since each disk had music recorded on both sides.
Time passed and the turntable wore out. So my 300 albums were rendered useless, but I still
had my AM/FM radio. I also had a Video Cassette Recorder that was connected to my television and a collection of VHS cassettes containing movies. Slowly VHS cassettes were replaced in the movie rental and sales business by DVD's (Digital Video Discs). So, in order to keep up with the times I bought a DVD player, thereby rendering my VHS cassettes useless.
Now I began collecting Digital Discs, all of which played on my DVD player, both movies and
music. Then I got a lap-top computer which has abuilt-in disc player. Now I can play both music and movies on my computer. Then someone gave me an MP-3 Player. I have no idea what MP-3 stands for but boy, can it play music! About one inch by two inches by one half inch thick, it has a place to plug in earphones, a digital screen to show me what's playing, a built-in
battery that can power the music for about eight hours before it needs recharging and a place to plug in a combination battery charger and music transference device which also plugs into my
computer. It currently contains over six hundred songs of my choosing and (oh yes) it has a built-in FM radio too.
Now I'm never without music. My MP3 player goes with me when I'm jogging (being digital,
it never skips a track when I bounce it around). It clips to my shirt when I go to the gym. And best of all, it plays me to sleep every night. The earphones are so small, I don't feel them when I lay the side ofm my head on my pillow.
