Homemade Hamburger Recipe
Hamburgers have
taken a beating to their reputation in recent years. They are thought
to be a very unhealthy meal choice. This couldn’t be further from the
truth. The problem is too many of us are getting them from fast food
restaurants. A homemade hamburger cooked on the grill is not
that bad for you. The beautiful thing about hamburgers is there is
limitless potential for the type of burger you want. For example, Elvis
burgers have bananas, bacon, oatmeal and eggs mixed into the ground
beef (ground sirloin in this case). With hamburgers you can truly be
creative, get your hands dirty and have a little fun. The homemade hamburger recipe
we’re making today however is not quite that adventurous. It is just a
simple homemade hamburger recipe to spruce up boring burgers. You
will need a knife, one large bowl, a cutting board and a grill.
Skillets or frying pans can take the place of a grill if you have to,
but grilling is recommended with hamburgers. The fat drips down into
the fire creating a pleasant smoky flavor. Whereas cooking hamburgers on a flat surface means they will absorb the fat instead. Well, time to get started.
Ingredients:
1lb. ground sirloin
½ red onion, chopped
3 tsp. ground black pepper
2 tsp. paprika
2 tsp. coriander
A dash of salt
1 large egg
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
Roll
up your sleeves cause your hands are about to get dirty. Mix all the
ingredients in a large bowl. Grind it together with your hands. Form it
into patties and throw it on the grill. It should take four minutes or
so per side for a burger to cook to medium. However if you are in the mood for something different,
here’s a little list of things you can add to your ground beef mixture:
cheese, pineapples, bacon, oatmeal, a little water, soy sauce, beer,
avocados, jalapenos, bleu cheese, horseradish, salsa, BBQ sauce,
sausage, pork, chicken, bread crumbs, jelly, sour cream, peanut butter,
hot sauce and even shredded coconut. The amount of ways you can
personalize your burgers for your family’s tastes is limitless. The
homemade hamburger recipe above is just a personal favorite. But
diversity among hamburgers is encouraged, so be creative.
