Recipe For Home Style Meatloaf
This recipe for home style meatloaf is a timeless classic. It is not flashy, daring or crazy. It’s simply a home style favorite that is quick and easy and has been satisfying taste buds for over 60 years. This recipe for home style meatloaf calls for ground round. However, if you are in the mood for something a little different
you could substitute up to a half pound of ground pork for an equal amount of ground round. You
could also substitute rye or sourdough bread crumbs instead of oats.
Meatloaf Ingredients:
2 tsp. melted butter
¼ cup diced onions
1 ½ lbs. ground round (ground sirloin works as well)
1 cup oats
1 cup tomato juice
½ cup BBQ sauce
1 egg
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Dash of salt
1 tsp. ground black pepper
1 tsp. garlic salt
½ Tbsp. spicy mustard
1 Tbsp. brown sugar
2-4 strips of bacon (optional)
Glaze Ingredients:
½ cup ketchup
½ Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. hot sauce
1 Tbsp. honey
The first thing you’ll need to do is preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Stir all the glaze
ingredients together in a medium sized bowl, set aside. Melt the butter
in a saucepan. Roll your sleeves up and mix all the ingredients in the
recipe for home style meatloaf together by hand, except the bacon.
Weave the bacon strips across the top of the loaf. Gently put the
meatloaf mix into a bread pan or 9x5x3” pan avoiding as many air
pockets as possible. After it has been in the oven for 20 minutes,
remove the meatloaf and put the glaze on top. Put the meatloaf back in
the oven and let it bake for an additional 40 minutes, for a total cooking time of one hour. Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it sit for about 10 minutes before slicing it up and digging in. Bon Appétit.
